about

It was a fun and interesting experiment, although maybe more fun to have done than it is to listen to. That part's up to you.

For this "live" album, each of the four members of the group at their home studios in California, Colorado, Ohio and New York coordinated themselves to record improvised parts simultaneously at exactly the same time on the longest day of 2003. Each person recorder their own performance separately, but all were together in spirit.

After the individual parts were assembled together on multitrack, a coherent performance was revealed, almost as though all members had been in the same room improvising together.

Guest voices appear on C. Reider's answering machine, Dave Stafford plays guitar, MJB interfaces with cymbals, a Crate bass amp, a RAT pedal, a Casio and an old cassette recorder, and Ian C Stewart sits very still for a long time, until he plays what sounds like a touch-tone-phone-pad-solo on a Chapman Stick.

about

Drone Forest

Drone Forest were:
Michael J. Bowman
C. Reider
Dave Stafford
Ian C. Stewart

The Drone Forest collective worked by using sound sources pooled on a shared internet server (because they all lived very far apart). Each member composed work individually using that sound source library as base material.

Drone Forest ceased operations in 2008.
